ASHRAE Region XI News

Greg Fluter – Membership Promotion RVC

I am the new Membership Promotion RVC for Region XI for the next 3 years.  I am taking over from Bruce Dobbs from the Oregon Chapter and I would like to thank Bruce for his time and dedication to the position.  This past June, I attended my first ASHRAE Annual Conference in St. Louis as the MP RVC.  The conference was held in St. Louis, MO.  I attended 2 days of Membership Committee meetings where we reviewed previous business, went through Regional Chapter Reports and addressed new business.  We broke into sub-committee groups of which I have been appointed to the recruitment sub-committee.  In that discussion it has been pointed out there are a few chapters globally that have gained significant growth over the past couple of years.  We have tasked ourselves to contact these chapters to inquire about their success with increasing membership.  We will report back at the Winter Meetings in January.  Total ASHRAE membership briefly surpassed 56,000 members in June, but has fallen slightly below that mark in July.  We are working hard to get above and remain above that target.

I also attended my first Centralized Training session as an MP RVC.  This also took place in St. Louis.  There were approximately 35 chapter MP chairs or co-chairs attending.  This was a great opportunity to meet some of the chapter chairs from our region.  It’s the goal of the MP Committee to have all chapter MP chairs or co-chairs attend the Centralized Training on an annual basis.  The next session is scheduled for September 10th in Atlanta.  For more information about Centralized Training go to the link:

Over the new few weeks, I’ll be discussing growth goals with each of the chapter MP chairs for this upcoming year.

I’m very much looking forward to working with you to promote ASHRAE membership.

Greg Fluter
