ASHRAE Region XI News

Message From DRC

We are at the halfway point of the 2013 – 2014 ASHRAE year!

Having just returned from the Society Winter Meeting in NYC I wanted to update you on current Board of Directors and Regional activities. Currently, the Board of Directors is working through a strategic planning process to help shape the future for ASHRAE. I believe all ASHRAE members play an important part in this process. With the feedback we have received from the grassroots level and the current statistical data provided by Society, a new strategic plan should be ready for BOD approval at the Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA this coming June.

I am excited to be a part of this process and thank you all for the opportunity to represent you on the Board and in Region XI. I have had the privilege of visiting 5 Chapters so far this 2013-2014 year. I have been to the Inland Empire, Mid-Columbia, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, and Puget Sound Chapters and saw several great programs and I appreciate everyone’s hospitality.

I was pleased to give the (Seattle) Annual Meeting Invitation, at Member’s Night Out in NYC, and boast a bit about the Pacific Northwest. As it turns out, my pseudo prediction of a Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl win was correct! There may be some friendly banter between the Rocky Mountain Chapter and the Puget Sound Chapter in late June. Check out the Regional Website http://region11.ashraeregions.org/ for information on the Annual Meeting in Seattle!

The Moose Blog, our regional newsletter/information center, is continuously updated. There you will find information from our Regional Vice Chairs responsible for Student Activities (SA), Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA), Membership Promotion, Research Promotion, Grassroots Government Activities (GGAC), and Chapter Technology Transfer (CTTC). The link for the Moose is https://regionxithemoose.wordpress.com/ so please check it out.

The Mid-Columbia Chapter CRC Planning Committee is very close to finalizing plans for the Region XI 2014 Chapters Regional Conference in Richland, WA. The CRC spring conference will be held from Thursday May 8th through Saturday May 10th. You can access information about the CRC at www.midcolumbia.ashraechapters.org. They have a great Technical Program, Golf Outing, and of course – CRC Schedule put together so start making plans now to attend. Please encourage your chapter leadership to start planning now.

Please contact me if you have questions about our Region or have any website suggestions. I thank you all for serving ASHRAE and look forward to serving with you this year!

Kindest Regards

Kevin Marple

ASHRAE Director, & Regional Chair
