ASHRAE Region XI News

2013 ASHRAE Technology Awards

Region XI submitted 14 applications for the 2013 ASHRAE Technology Awards program.   Twelve out of the 14 applications were announced as winners on November 9, 2012.  There were a total of 33 winners, with Region XI taking 36% of the honors!  Case Study articles will start being published in the ASHRAE Journal March 2013 issue.  Congratulations to the following winners for their exemplary performance:

First Place Category I – Commercial Buildings – Existing  Rice Fergus Miller Office & Studio, Shawn Oram, Ecotope, Inc. (Puget Sound Chapter)

First Place Category II – Educational Facilities – New  Portland State University, Mark Owen Koller, Interface Engineering (Oregon Chapter)

First Place Category I – Other Institutional – New  Eastside Fire & Rescue Station 72, Jonathan Heller, Ecotope, Inc. (Puget Sound Chapter)

First Place Category II – Health Care Facilities – New  Swedish Issaquah Hospital, Jeremy McClanathan, CDi Engineers (Puget Sound Chapter)

Second Place Category I – Commercial Buildings – New  Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Headquarters, Peter French Alspach, Arup (Puget Sound Chapter)

Second Place Category II – Educational Facilities – New  Vancouver Island University – Cowichan Campus, Louise Grace Smith, The AME Consulting Group Ltd. (Vancouver Island Chapter)

Second Place Category III – Industrial Facilities or Processes – Existing  TCS Data Center, Robert Sloan, Mckinstry Co. (Puget Sound Chapter)

Second Place Category V – Residential – New  Whistler Athlete’s Village, Tom (Shimin) Ren, DEC Design Mechanical Consultants Ltd. (BC Chapter)

Honorable Mention Category I – Educational Facilities – New  Machias Elementary School, Brian Haugk, Hargis Engineers, Inc. (Puget Sound Chapter)

Honorable Mention Category I – Other Institutional – Existing  Seattle Fire Station #2, Sean Abbot, CDi Engineers (Puget Sound Chapter)

Honorable Mention Category V – Residential – New  Brentwood Net Zero Affordable Housing Project, Scott Koehn, Vital Engineering Corporation (Northern Alberta Chapter)

Applications for the 2013-2014 Regional Technology Awards will be due to me no later than April 1, 2013.  My goal is to receive applications from all 12 chapters.
